Introduction

PPSC is abbreviation of “Punjab Public Service Commission” which is a Punjab Government institution and they are responsible for recruiting civil servants/ gazetted officers in government of Punjab. PPSC office is located in banking & TV/News channels hub of Lahore “Agha Khan Road, Agha khan road is previously known as “Davis Road”. The Daily jang also have its office on the same road whereas many tv channels are located near to this road. Lahore press club is also located near to Agha khan road.

Functions of the Commission

At present, the commission is functioning under article 242 of the constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. It has been provided autonomy under the Rules of Business, 1973 and PPSC Regulations, 1978 in its working. The Commission has also been given administrative as well as, to some extent, financial autonomy to perform its functions independently.

The function of PPSC is to Select and recommend suitable candidates through a merit-based, transparent and expeditious process to promote excellence, professionalism and competence in the Punjab Public Service and render advice to Government. Other functions of this commission are, to conduct tests, examinations and interviews for recruitment to, Such Provincial Services and posts connected with the affairs of the Province.

Such posts in or under a Corporation or other body or organization set up by Government under any law.

To advise the Government on such matters as may be prescribed relating to the terms and conditions of service of persons who are members of a Provincial Service or hold posts in connection with the affairs of the Province, any other functions as may be prescribed.

Objectives of the Punjab Public Service Commission

The main objectives of establishing this PPSC are,

To establish a competent, efficient, professional and responsive Public Service to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century, to act without fear or favor ensuring functional independence, political neutrality, accountability and integrity, to uphold standards, policies, guidelines and rules governing selection processes, to develop and implement rules based selection criteria and process to ensure fair and equal opportunity to all candidates. Another function of PPSC is to render advice to the Government, where necessary, on policies, methods of recruitment, selection criteria and processes, to ensure efficient selection process and to attract best possible human resource for various posts.

Chairman PPSC

Currently Mr. Lt. Gen. Sajjad Akram is chairman of PPSC. He was ex-army personnel. He was born on 5th April 1954 in Gujrat. And he joined the Pakistan Army and was enrolled in the 48th Long Course in 1971. He was commissioned in Dec. 1971 in the Baloch Regiment. He served on different posts in Pak army which include

As Force Commander and Chief Military Observer of a United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Sierra Leone, he had the honor of being the first General Officer from Pakistan to hold such an appointment. As Deputy Chairman, ERRA he undertook the responsibility of recovery, reconstruction and rehabilitation in the earthquake affected areas spread over 30,000 square kilometers in AJK and KPK. The aim of the ERRA was to reconstruct over 13,000 projects, at the cost of over $ 5 Billion. The main responsibility of Deputy chairman ERRA was macro planning, development of sectorial strategies, financial management, project approval, monitoring and evaluation besides providing strategic direction to the Authority. He also Organized an International Conference at Islamabad to show case the achievements of ERRA and contribution and share lessons learnt. Also attended a few international conferences and seminars across the world.

JOBS Advertisement on PPSC

Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) advertise jobs on their website, whereas they also advertise in the newspapers about the announce jobs, normally PPSC asks the candidates to apply online through their website and don’t send the documents in hard form to their offices. The eligibility criteria of each job is different and depending upon the nature of announced jobs, as every post has its own requirement of candidate that weather the candidate should be master’s degree holder or bachelor degree holder, the type of degree a candidate holds also differs from post to post. Same goes with the experience BS-16 or above rank then their might be requirement of professional experience of more than 5-7 years. For candidates, they need to apply online for advertised jobs of PPSC for which they need to follow the below procedure to fill out the form and complete the process further so their application comes in the application box and PPSC consider their application,

All Candidates are not being allowed to apply On-line for any job after Closing Date fixed for receipt of applications. Candidates are required to make sure that they fill all columns of web generated application form. All applications for the posts up to BS-18 Hard Copy of the On-line Application is not required to be submitted to the Commission. For all posts above than BS-19 where scrutiny work is required before the interview, hard copy of On-line Application along with a set of photocopies of all relevant documents should be submitted as requisitioned in the relevant Advertisement In case any application is rejected due to any reason, representation, if any, shall be addressed to the “Secretary, Punjab Public Service Commission”, 2-Agha Khan (Davis) Road, Lahore in accordance with the instructions provided in the Rejection letter/Advertisement(s) for the post In case any information provided by the Candidate in his/her online application form is found to be incorrect or false at any stage, he/she will be disqualified and action will be taken under the Rules.

Candidates are advised to read all terms and conditions and general instructions of the Advertisement carefully before submit their online applications complete in all respects. The responsibility of correctness of the data given in the on-line application will rest squarely on the candidate.

Candidates have to deposit the fee; it is mandatory for Candidates to deposit the fee as required in the Advertisement in any Branch of State Bank of Pakistan or National Bank of Pakistan or Government Treasury before the Closing Date of receipt of applications, Receipt Number will be mentioned in the Online Application Form of the Candidates. Candidate have to show and submit Original Receipt at the time of Interview/ Viva voce if candidate is not able to provide original receipt he/she will not be allowed to appear in the Interview / Viva voce. Original Receipt will be retained by PPSC for record Candidates, residing outside Pakistan, but having Domicile of the Punjab will deposit the fee at the Pakistani Embassy of residing country in the currency of that country equivalent to the amount of Application/ Examination Fee prescribed for the post. PPSC however allows disabled candidates are not required to deposit application/exam/test fee. All fees must be deposited in above mentioned banks in shape of cash, no bank draft/pay order/demand draft/cheque will be acceptable by commission.

Eligibility of a candidate will be determined on the basis of Instructions issued by the Government or PPSC from time to time. Qualification/experience prescribed in the Advertisement, the age, qualifications, experience and other credentials etc. of the Candidates shall be taken up to the Closing Date fixed for such post, moreover this is to clear that all eligibility criteria for any post is set by the government or by the organization for which the candidate is required and PPSC has no authority to relax a candidate in any of the eligibility criteria.

Age relaxation is given in some extent if a candidate is falling under below criteria in the case of a Candidate already working as a Government Servant, under the Government of the Punjab, the period of his continuous service as such shall for the purpose of upper age limit prescribed under any service rules, of the post for which he/she is a candidate, be excluded from his/her total age. Provided that the upper-age limit shall not exceed 35 years for recruitment to any post to be filled in on the recommendations of the PPSC on the basis of the combined competitive examination.

If a candidate needs to change his/her Mobile Number which he/she already fed in his/her On-line application, he/she needs to send a signed application through mail along with a copy of CNIC, new mobile number, application number and the post applied for. The application should be addressed to Secretary, PPSC. The Commission will not be responsible for ensuring any intimation to the candidate in case of a changed mobile number without intimation to the PPSC.
